Pittsburgh Urban Christian School

809 Center St. between Ross Ave. and South Ave.

The Pittsburgh Urban Christian School (PUCS), in the former Calvary Lutheran Church building, is an active partner in the Wilkinsburg community. Students at the school helped design the renewed Ferguson Playground. PUCS worked with several organizations and the borough to make the revitalization possible. PUCS has been open to community meetings and activities including the Sacred Spaces Tours, the Preservation Pittsburgh and Captured::Pittsburgh Churches of Wilkinsburg: A Neighborhood Architectural Tour, and the Mulberry Project.

The home page for PUCS tells, “At Pittsburgh Urban Christian School, we inspire our students to see the world as a whole, emphasizing the natural connections between subjects. Rather than teaching math separate from science or social studies distinct from art and music, the PUCS curriculum brings together content from multiple subjects into creative learning units.”
